Week-end in Provence between Alpilles and Camargue

During this week-end you will reside in a magical site where all the scents, the colours, the flavours of Provence and Camargue can be found. In the evening you will enjoy the pleasure of a bewitching music in Mas (cottage)de la Chapelle.

For this first day you will travel towards the range of Alpilles. At Fontvieille you penetrate the Alphonse Daudet’s domain of inspiration. The writer used to stay frequently at the Montauban. You will reach Daudet’s wind mill between magnificent stone pines which run alongside the road. From the top of the hill you will discover the setting of his Provençale works.

When leaving Fontvieille you will come across the rocky spur of the Alpilles standing out the massifs of olive trees,. Further to some bends you will discover the first houses of les Baux, one of the most outstanding perched villages in Provence. The ruins of the fortified castle and the old houses remain as many witnesses of a glorious past.
You will travel through the Alpilles on a road which will provide panoramas galore before reaching Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.

Further you will come across Saint-Paul-de-Mausole monastery.

Your itinerary will continue all along the Alpilles canal before arriving in Eygalières, a superb view over the Came mountain and the Durance valley. You will cross the dried marshes of the Baux to drive back to Arles.
